A Vote From a Nineteen Year Old
Owego, NY: A vote from a nineteen year old. You've most likely heard about all the historical landmarks, friendly community, activities to be held, and family restaurants to partake at, but the reason why I like Owego is yet to be said. I spend a lot of my time wandering, at least during these colder days, just waiting for spring and summer to come. Most would go to the parks or
the public pool when the warmth comes, but I head out across the fairgrounds and walk through the forested area. My path winds along the multiple trails dug by ATVs and dirt bikes, my eyes always spotting something new through the sunlight escaping the treetops. I make it far enough away that the town's traffic gives way to the silence of nature. Very often had I been able to observe a deer or two, and still be able to walk away before they were spooked. Even further, past the old train tracks and the Owego Creek, running off of the Susquehanna, is my old tree house, that I had made with my siblings years ago, before we were separated. I can still sit on the limbs of the huge oak, looking over the running creek, listening to the birds sing their songs, watch a raccoon wash his finds in the shallows, and reminisce about my "good old days", which were only last year. One of these days I plan on taking a special someone out past the hustle and bustle of Owego's other offerings, to where what I love about my cool little town can really be seen.
